Senate Committee Unanimously Advances America the Beautiful Act; EEN Action Calls on Congress to Honor 250 Years of Stewardship

Today, the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee voted unanimously to advance the America the Beautiful Act (S. 1547), a bipartisan bill championed by Senators Steve Daines (R-MT), Angus King (I-ME), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), and Mark Warner (D-VA). Developed through bipartisan, bicameral negotiations with the administration, the legislation reauthorizes the Legacy Restoration Fund, investing $6.65 billion over five years from 2027 through 2031 to repair crumbling roads, deteriorating buildings, and failing water infrastructure across America’s national parks and public lands.

In response, Dr. Rev. Jessica Moerman released the following statement.

“When we stand before the breathtaking landscapes of our national parks and public lands, we are witnessing the undeniable handiwork of our Creator entrusted to us to protect for generations of Americans still to come. For evangelicals, stewarding these lands is not a policy preference; it is a profound moral obligation. Today’s unanimous, bipartisan committee vote is a powerful witness to that shared conviction, and I am deeply grateful to Senators Daines, King, Cramer, Warner, and every member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee for their leadership.

“This legislation is pro-life and pro-family in the most practical sense. S. 1547 directly funds life-sustaining infrastructure required to safely access and enjoy America’s natural and cultural treasures. It overhauls failing water and wastewater systems so that families, infants, expectant mothers, and all visitors enjoying our national parks have access to safe, clean water. It is a powerful economic engine for the rural and gateway communities that neighbor these parks, supporting local jobs and injecting vital dollars into places that need them most. True conservation does not require federal mandates; it requires the courage and foresight to maintain what God has already given us.

“With the United States marking 250 years of nationhood this July 4th, what better way to give thanks than investing in America’s natural treasures? We look forward to working with Congress to get this bill across the finish line.”
