Expand Clean Energy Potential in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania currently has the opportunity to both support our children’s future and defend their health today through the proposed HB 2380, which expands battery storage by requiring utility companies to invest in utility-scale and distributed battery systems. This, in turn, unlocks a necessary component of our commonwealth’s diverse potential by bolstering clean energy solutions while supporting the growing energy needs of Pennsylvanians and their children.
Pennsylvania ranks only 28th in the nation for battery storage capacity and hasn’t seen measurable growth over the past decade, despite the cost of battery storage rapidly and substantially declining. As storms continue to batter the commonwealth’s electric infrastructure, and the demand on PJM’s regional energy grid continues to grow, more battery storage will not only reduce this strain but also benefit Pennsylvanian families worried about their energy reliability and costs.
Support Community Energy in Pennsylvania
As Evangelicals committed to defending the life and health of every child, we support community energy that will secure clean, affordable energy that any and all Pennsylvanians can access. With Community Energy, families who are renters or whose homes are shaded by trees could finally benefit from solar. The bill would also allow lower and middle-income families to choose clean energy and save money on their energy bills.
Community energy would benefit all ratepayers by supplying extra energy to the grid during peak demand on hot days when prices are highest, safeguarding against price spikes and blackouts and lowering the overall energy burden of families across the commonwealth. Join us in telling the General Assembly it’s time to advance community solar in Pennsylvania by passing Community Energy!
Keep Pennsylvania an Energy Leader
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and other federal programs for renewable energy and energy storage have boosted economic activity and identified targeted investment zones, which include much of Pennsylvania. However, these opportunities can and will be lost to neighboring states with more competitive renewable energy goals unless Pennsylvania updates its Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard (AEPS) through the passage of the Pennsylvania Reliable Energy Sustainability Standard (PRESS).
Join us in calling on the Pennsylvania Legislature to defend our kids by prioritizing positive solutions to cut pollution. Urge these decision-makers to vote yes for PRESS in Pennsylvania today!
